Description
Paul Chen Kami Katana Folded Steel #1201 Sword NEW Click to view supersized image Kami Katana Folded Steel Samurai Sword (1201) The exquisite Kami Katana is Paul Chens most expensive Japanese folded steel sword. Its the top of the line. The Kami swords are in the Nambokucho style, with large O-kissaki (long tip) and Bo-hi (blood groove) along the length of the blade. There is a horimono (engraving) of Hachiman on the blade. The sword is reminiscent of an older era, the late 15th century, with the large dramatic kissaki and the red and black saya with ribbing at the top. This sword is a reproduction of the bold swords used in battle during the Nambokucho period. The blade is hand-forged and folded from ASSAB-K120C, a state of the art high grade Swedish powdered steel. The blade is differentially tempered to produce a perfectly hardened HRC60 cutting edge, HRC40 back for resilience and shock absorption. This produces a strong functional sword with a beautiful pattern in the steel and a strong hamon (temper line) that is produced naturally from the forging process. A true Hamon temper line indicates that the edge has been independently hardened in the traditional manner. The Saya (scabbard) is deeply lacquered in red, with a black ring-carved section at the sageo. The tsuka-ito (handle wrapping) and the sageo (cord) is woven from best quality Japanese silk which sets the Kami apart from the rest. The ray skin used on the tsuka (grip) is of the highest quality. The Fuchi, Kashira, Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are all made from blackened bronze, with decoration in relief and selective detailing of copper, silver and gold. The Tsuba (guard) of the Katana, depicting the Kami, or Guardian Warriors, is made from hardened blackened copper, with decoration in relief and selective silver and gold detailing. The Habaki is of two-piece construction, the inner section being copper and the outer section gold-plated brass. The blades are engraved, at the Habaki, with a hand-engraved "Fudo" horomono, a traditional blade carving from the Edo period.
