Description
Japanese Gendai (Modern) Kogatana. Length of Cutting edge: 13.5 cm It is signed 'Miike Ju Yasumitsu Saku' . This is Komiya Yasumitsu from Omuta in Kyushu. He is the grandson of the first Generation Komiya Shiro Kunimitsu, the famous smith of the Showa period (1926-1989). His is also the great great great grandson of 'Shinano no Kami Muto Hisahiro' a Bakamatsu smith who was retained by the Yanagawa clan of Kyushu. The hamon is notare with gunome in ko-nie. It also has a small section of muneyaki. The nioi-guchi is well formed throughout with long ashi. The tokin habaki was made by mukansa (master craftsman) shirogane Miyajima Hiroshi (as seen in "The Craft of the Japanese Sword). The Blade was polished by multiple first prize winner Sasaki Takushi-- a top student of Living National Treasure Nagayama Kokan. The shirasaya (plain wooden scabbard) was made by Kokushi Susumu (a polisher and shirasaya maker) . This is a rare chance to own a well-crafted piece of Japanese culture, contributed to by a great combination of today's top craftsmen in Japan for a reasonable price. Item ships from Japan.
