Description: Narrow hand forged single-edged narrow straight Damascus steel blade decorated with engraved ornamentation on the ricasso. White bone handle on one side and a semi-precious stone (Most likely from Nephrite) on the other. Wooden sheath is covered with purple velvet cloth and has decorated brass fittings. Unmarked. Condition: Very good original condition, showing some wear and patina on metal parts and minor corrosion the blade. Minor cracks and chips on the handle as shown. A Kard is a type of Islamic knife found in Turkey, Armenia, Persia, and all the way to India. Mostly used in the 18th century and before, it has a straight single edged blade and is usually no longer than 16 inches in length. It has no guard, and usually the handle was bone or horn. It was mostly a stabbing weapon, and commonly the point would be reinforced to penetrate chain mail.
