forthenryantiques Store 1776 SCOTTISH DIRK 72ND FOOT SEAFORTHS RARE ORIGINAL 1776 72ND OF FOOT 1776 ANTIQUE RARE SCOTTISH DIRK A very rare and stunning SCOTTISH DIRK to the 72nd of Foot ( ROYAL MANCHESTER VOLUNTEERS 1777 - 1784 ). This unit later became the First Battalion of the famous Seaforth Highlanders. This dirk was created by May & Son. Research shows that May & Son occupied the premises of 55 New Street, Birmingham, England from 1776 to 1787 and were also silver assayers. This quarantees the age of the dirk. it also explains the silver trim on the dirk along the brass hardware.This stunning dirk is complete with its knife and fork. The blade measures 12 inches in lenght and 1 3/8 at its widest point. The blade is in good condition for its age and bears the insignia of the 72ND of FOOT on BOTH faces of the blade. The garnet stone of the dirk has no chips. The edges of the garnet of the small knife are chipped. Again the stone of the fork is a white topaz with chips.
