Susanoo is the son of Izanagi, the god life in Japanese myth. Susanoo was the god of the sea and storms. Due to his dominion over the seas he has also been strongly associated with evil and demons. He was the brother of Amatersau, the goddess of the sun, and Tsukuyomi, the goddess of the moon. The fights between Susanoo and Amatersau have become the stuffing of legends. In one such cataclysmic fight between the two siblings, which resulted in Amatersau fleeing from heaven and hiding in a cave and Susanoo was banished from heaven. Susanoo came to earth in the province of Izumo. The shrine now built in Izumo province is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in all of Japan. The Katana includes: A Wooden Gift Box, Silk Sword Bag, and Certificate of Authenticity Attributes of the Katana: Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from 1065 High Carbon Steel in a Maru Lamination. The Hamon and curve of the blade have been authentically created. The curve of the blade has been created as a result of the different steel used on the Ha and Shinogi. When the blade is quenched the sword is covered with a clay solution, except for the edge of the blade. The blade is then heated and quenched in water drawn from the spring of Longquan. Since the Ha cools much more quickly than the rest of the blade the molecules in the steel expand and force the softer steel to fold back. The Hamon runs through the Kissake to the end of the blade. The blade has been built with a low mune, a medium curve, and O-Kissake. A Bo-Hi has been added to lessen the weight of the blade and give audible feedback when the sword is swung correctly. The blade comes full tang and razor sharp. Saya: The Saya of the sword has been constructed from wood with a deep burgundy finish and bright golden highlights. A brown silk Sage-o has been tied around the bright copper kurigata. The Koiguchi has been lined with bull horn. Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction securing the blade of the sword into the Tsuba. The Tsuba has been created from brass with gold and silver plating in the image of crashing waves. The Tsuba is secured by two copper Seppas. Tsuka: The Tsuka features a wooden core with a ray skin Same and brown silk Ito. Two bamboo Mekugi pins secures the tang of the sword into the handle. The Fuchi is gold and silver plated with another image of crashing waves. Two Menuki are located on each side of the Tsuka, one is gold plated, the other silver plated.
